1. GETTING STARTED
- What is Portfolio Runner?
- Is it really free?
- Can I buy or sell stock on PortfolioRunner?
- Can I choose my own stocks to run risk management on?
- Can I receive multiple intra-day recommendations?
- Could not log on?
2. STRATEGIES, RECOMMENDATIONS, RISK MANAGEMENT
- How do I get recommendations?
- I can’t see any recommendation.
- How can I view historical performance data of different strategies?
- Are you supposed to follow the recommended Demo portfolio with equal weighting, based on your account balance?
- Are you allowed to enter other stocks and will the system make recommendations on those "outside" stocks?
- Is there a performance history of each strategy (e.g. back testing) over a period of time?
- I am based in the UK and invest with the FTSE. I am writing to enquire whether this service is available for the FTSE in the UK and Russia?
- How can I find the current [open] stock picks of one of the Strategies?
- Is there somewhere on the site that explains the various numbers and categories?
- I am having trouble understanding exactly how to put trades on.
- Please explain exactly how to enter a trade. For example, with strategy called “Ernia” today, it wanted me to buy 170 shares of IO stock with an entry price of $5.11 but the stock actually opened up at $5.47. Was I supposed to take this trade or was the price too high?
- When you calculate your performance page for a particular strategy, what entry price are you using? Is it the close price from the day before the recommendation or is it the actual entry price someone could realistically get the day the recommendation is sent out?
- Is there any way to remove an incorrect transaction? I sold (stopped out) MSFT in Broker account. To correct the PortfolioRunner I entered this sell. The first time it accidentally was entered as ticker IBM instead of MSFT, is there anyway to edit this out? I still have 2000 shares of MSFT.
- I see that the “Osmia” demo portfolio has been doing very well. I assume that this results from trades from all risk levels (conservative, balanced and aggressive) combined right?
- In my portfolio "conservative", the ticker MSCS.R went to zero as the market price which is not correct thus throwing off the portfolio.
- What you mean by L risk and R risk and the numbers and color?
- How do I get PortfolioRunner recommendations, I have my user name and password, do you send them by email ?
- I set up a portfolio but it's not giving me recommendations.
- I've got 3 strategies selected - when Buy Recommendations appear how do I know which strategy came up with the selections?
- Please explain what the Priority # means?
- What exactly is a "limit at ask" order? How do I find out what the "limit at ask" order price is before the market opens up so I can place the order as soon as I receive it from you?
- Is the "limit at ask" order to be placed as a "day order" or is it a "good til cancelled" order?
- Since I signed up for the "balanced setting" of the “Ernia” strategy, should I ignore "conservative" and "aggressive" trades?

PortfolioRunner is a platform providing automated stock exchange trading recommendations and investment portfolio management tools. With PortfolioRunner you can get personalized trading recommendations from a set of various investment strategies – technical, fundamental and social. Yes. For the time being the service is absolutely free of charge. You may have noticed the “beta” sign right next to the PortfolioRunner logo. This means that the service is fully functional but we’re planning to implement some more enhancements and get additional feedback to make it even more effective.
PortfolioRunner is not a broker, nor linked to any broker or dealer. Your portfolio on PortfolioRunner is virtual. You need to set up an account with a broker in order to buy and sell stocks.
Yes, you can add stocks to the pool of recommendations. Then, press “calculate” button and the system will calculate the exact amount of shares you need to buy. Sometimes the amount can be zero, which means that it’s not recommended to buy the stock.
PortfolioRunner is not intended to assist intra-day trades. The service is oriented to mid and long term risk management. All the recommendations are generated automatically once a day (after the stock exchange closes) and provided to users at the beginning of a new trading day.

No. However we plan to expand and get European Stock Exchanges included. Please contact us if you want to order such integration (paid service).
PortfolioRunner does not just provide investment strategies but it also calculates the optimal amount to invest in this or that stock taking the user’s risk inclination into consideration. The user needs to create a portfolio, specify its settings (Buy Power, Risk Inclination) and sign up for one or several investment strategies available. The recommendation block will become available when done.
Please point your mouse on the indicator or click on the question mark
located next to the number or indicator and a pop up window will show the explanation.
After you have a recommendation received you need to execute it with your broker account and then duplicate the transaction (input buy/sell data) in your PortolioRunner virtual portfolio.
To simplify buy/sell process we have the following parameters available on the web site:
Priority – recommended order of execution. Calculated based on stock liquidity, intraday market changes, the available Buy Power and other indicators.
Order Type – recommended way of buying a stock. Calculated based on stock liquidity and intraday market changes. The following Order Types are possible: limit at ask, limit at bid and market order.
Limit at ask – the limit will be given at ask price
Limit at bid – the limit will be given at bid price
Market order – transaction is to be made at limit order specified.
Please read more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_(exchange)#Limit_order
Our strategies give you recommendations on stocks which have potential for growth not just within one day but within a longer investment period. Entry Price is the last price available when the recommendation was generated. You may execute recommendations at the mentioned Entry Price or at the best price available during the day that the recommendation was received. (General advice is to execute recommendations at the best price you can depending on supply and demand and the market movement).
To calculate performance for model portfolios, we use Open Price as information about all the recommendations are available before the markets are open and you can send orders even before opening.
Yes. You may remove an incorrect transaction through Remove Stock function at My Portfolio page.
At the moment for all model portfolios are set at Aggressive risk level which specifies which recommendations are to be executed and which amount will be invested to each of them.

In case a ticker has “.R “ in the end this means that stock is not trading anymore and you should close this position.
L Risk – stock liquidity risk that a given security or asset cannot be traded quickly enough in the market to prevent a loss (or make the required profit).
R Risk – stock return risk is the relationship between the amount of return gained on an investment and the amount of risk undertaken in that investment i.e. statistical measure of the dispersion of returns for a given security or market index. It is measured by using the standard deviation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_deviation. Commonly, the higher the volatility, the riskier the security i.e. the more return sought, the more risk that must be undertaken. Color in the circle indicates risk level (green – low risk, red – high risk, orange – medium risk).
You can see your to date recommendations by logging into the system (press Enable auto simulation of the portfolio box if you want the service to execute them automatically for you). We also send the recommendations by e-mail daily.
There are various reasons why you are not receiving recommendations. Please click Why to see what’s the reason.

You can see which strategy generated the recommendation by pointing your mouse on the stock symbol in Recommendations for my portfolio block:

Priority number indicates the order we recommend to execute recommendations with (number 1 indicates which stock to buy/sell first).
This indicates our vision on how to execute an order in the most profitable way. We execute orders during the day recommendation was received (when information on ask and bid price is already available).
We recommend executing any recommendation during the day it was received or follow so called "day order" rule (not the next day) in order to step in the growing trend earlier. In case you forget to execute during the recommended day, please check the trend the next day before executing the recommendation from yesterday, because there could have been a changed price and corresponding limit order.
The risk level is set for the whole portfolio and specifies proportion of capital to be invested in this or that stock and also stop levels for fixing profits and losses. So you just need to select a risk level suitable for your investment preferences and PortfolioRunner engine will take care of the proper calculations.
